Club History
The auspicious opening of the Royal Motor Yacht Club (Newcastle) Toronto took place on Saturday, November 1st 1927 at ‘Lake Holme’ the former residence of the Arnott family (of Arnott’s biscuit fame). The club has been trading at this site since this date, except for a 6 year period when the premise was used by the Royal Australian Air Force as a recreation centre. At its inception the Club fostered cruiser and power boat racing and operated with a “very high degree of nautical ceremony and prestige, and on occasions, such as race days and other functions, uniform dress was mandatory. ” Construction of the marina fronting the Royal Motor Yacht Club was first proposed in 1982 and after many years of voluntary preliminary work approval to construct the marina was finally granted in March 1987. |
