Heaven Can Wait Charity Dinner

This is the annual fund raising dinner that precedes the Heaven Can Wait Charity Sailing Regatta. As the name implies, it is a fundraiser along with the regatta, that raises money in support of the Hunter Branch of Cancer Council NSW and specifically, their Home Help Program that provides support to terminal and recovering Cancer patients that - because of their condition, are unable to fulfil their domestic duties. A small amount of the funds rasied goes to the Lake Macquarie Marine Rescue who provide on-water support during the running of the regatta. 

The dinner includes a two course meal and a limited supply of wine per table. the theme at the 2021 dinner will be youth sailors and will feature a panel of young local sailors who are making their mark in the sport both locally and overseas. Our guests this year include Harry Miller (16 yo), Thomas Steenson (18 yo), Chelsea Williams (17 yo), Callum Marsh (16 yo) and Sarah Petherbridge. All sail from Belmont, NCYC or Toronto Amatuer Sailing Club in flying 11s, 16 ft skiffs and Elliott’s 6s and 7s (7s in Sydney) and Sailboards. Harry, Thomas and Chelsea have all done match racing at international regattas in Sydney, whilst Sarah is an istructor with NCYC. They will be interviewed by well known local ABC Newcastle sports commentator (and Cancer Survivor) Helene O'Neil.
